SIM Card and MicroSDXC Card for Gabb Phone

SIM & MicroSDXC Card

Understanding Your SIM Card

Inside your Gabb Phone™, there’s a small card with a chip called a SIM card. This card stores important info about your phone, like whose account it is. Your phone’s SIM card is what allows you to connect to a network to make calls and send texts.

Follow along with the rest of this tutorial to learn about some cool things like:

  • The difference between a SIM card and a microSDXC card
  • Opening your Gabb Phone to get to the SIM or microSDXC card (Instructions not intended for the Gabb Phone Plus)
  • Using a microSDXC card for portable storage
  • Using a microSDXC card for device storage
  • Fixing a SIM card error
The difference between a SIM card and a microSDXC card

Your Gabb phone has slots for two different types of cards: the SIM card, and a microSDXC card. While the SIM card is required to use many features, such as calling and texting, the microSDXC card is not necessary for the phone to function. You can think of the microSDXC card as a memory card; you can use it to store extra photos, videos, and music. You can’t store or transfer these types of files on your SIM card, but are able to with a microSDXC card.

Opening your Gabb Phone to get to the SIM or microSDXC card (Instructions not intended for the Gabb Phone Plus)

You can find both card slots in the back of your phone near the battery. To take off the phone’s back cover, place your finger in the cut-out in the corner and pull straight up. The back cover should easily pop off.

Your phone came with a SIM card. Once you open your phone, you’ll see it in the space on the right. If you choose to use a microSDXC card too, you can insert it into the space on the left. If you look closely, you’ll see tiny pictures near the slots that show you the right way to put in each card.

After placing the cards into their slots, be sure to tightly close your phone’s cover back into place.

Using a microSDXC card for portable storage

You can set up your microSDXC card to be used for portable storage or device storage. When you put a new microSDXC card into your phone, it will be set up for portable storage by default. This way, you can store photos, music and more on the card. You can upload these files to your computer by removing the card from your phone and putting it into a computer.

This way, you can store photos, music, and other files on the card.

Using a microSDXC card for device storage

If you need to, you can set up your microSDXC card for device storage instead of portable storage. In this case, it will be used to store large apps and their data. If you use your card in this way, it will be important to keep it in your phone for these apps to work. If you use this option, don’t remove the card from your phone unless you know how to do it safely.

Fixing a SIM card error

There’s a chance your Gabb Phone might give you an error that says you need to insert a SIM card – even if your SIM card is already in the right place! If this happens, you can powercycle your device by taking out the battery and SIM card, placing them back to their spots, and powering your phone back on.

If you get another SIM error, first ensure that your card is correctly inserted in its slot. You can additionally clean off the card with a tissue or soft material to remove any dirt or dust on the card.

If you can’t fix the error with any of these, have a grown-up help you contact Gabb.

Never touch the metal conductors on your SIM or microSDXC Card. This could potentially cause damage to the cards, and you may need to get a replacement.
